When The Wind of Brazil Is Calling Me!

When The Wind of Brazil Is Calling Me!
This is my way to like Brazil and to start this post. I postponed it so many times but this time around...I did it!

Group: Bellini Song: Samba Do Brasil

“El Tropical Samba do Brasil

Sensational Samba do Brasil

El Mundial Samba do Brasil

Phenomenal Samba do Brasil”
...
I hope I got them right!

(The pictures in the post are not mine)
This is my way to share how I feel about Brazil. This is a country that I definitely want to visit because of its festive and exotic spirit. I like the colors on the flag it's so refreshing like being under a happy sun. Brazil is a tropical country crossed by the equator like my country the weather is the same in most part (Because of the equator.)For some reasons I have always thought that maybe I was born Brazilian in another world (Smiling). I cannot explain the excitement and love for this country that I have never been to but from my own imagination I always think that there is a feeling of conviviality. The best part is when I played a name test and the result was that my nationality could be Brazilian. That result made me smile! I like the melting pot side of the population. No doubt Brazil is definitely an emerging country and I also like the fact that a woman is president.
I remember one day I was in the office of my school advisor, she was from Brazil. I saw a traditional instrument made of wood hung on the wall. It looked so much like a sacred instrument from my country and specifically from my ethnic group. It is a “Mvet” instrument. So imagine how I felt right at that moment when I saw it. It was like a piece of me and my roots. She told me that it is called the “berimbau” and she emphasized that some people in Brazil have some African roots as well. I knew it already but it meant so much to me when I saw that instrument and when she told me that. It felt so special!  In Brazil, they use the berimbau for the capoeira and they also have other instruments like we use in Africa  for instance some drums looking exactly like the drums used in West Africa. Moreover, capoeira and Samba are dances that have some African roots. Sometimes I wonder why some people reject other cultures and other people because the History of our world has so much to offer and the diversity is such a good thing! We all have something in common. The berimbau looked kind of different but there is a similarity with the Mvet.

My people (Called the Fang people. They live in the countries of Central Africa) call it a sacred instrument I have never used it but I just saw it in some important events. My people use it for poetic songs, epic battles, tales, etc.

I like the fact that really young I started listening to songs from many countries that were also featured on TV. I remember watching some Brazilian videos from my early age until I grew up. My personal experience with Brazilian people is really positive they are probably one of the nicest people that I have ever met. To me, they were real, true and warm at the same time. It is important because I come from a culture where we favor human contact.Today I still like current music from Brazil and I want to share what I used to watch back home. Of course, I grew up with these songs and I like them. To me it is the Old good times from Brazil!
 (This not my picture)

When I was young there were these famous kids from Brazil who rocked the world with their songs and dance called “Lambada.” That was Chico and Roberta! At that time every girl back home wanted to wear her skirt and dance like her. The city sometimes organized some Lambada competitions. I call it the Lambada fever!  My parent never allowed me to attend the competitions but it did not stop me watching them on TV and to dance it at home and luckily my mother bought me a nice Lambada skirt like Roberta plus I got the audio album so I could play the songs whenever I wanted to listen to it. That was such a nice precious present from mum. The first time I saw them dancing it was on a video song of a famous Brazilian group named La Kaoma. In the group’s song “Lambada” we could see Chico who enjoyed dancing with Roberta but her dad did not like it at all maybe because of their social differences. But at the end of the song everything got better and everybody was happy. The Lambada song had so much success everywhere in many cities of the world. It was also on some TV commercials etc. La Kaoma was the best!
The Lambada was such a sensual dance and everybody was trying to learn at least the basic steps of it because we all liked it. I was such a fan that even if I could not understand Portuguese I would sing by carefully following the way the singers were singing on TV and put the songs at home over and over again so I could catch some words to be able to sing like them (Of course,I could not sing exactly like them.) I would also be observing them dancing for hours it was my only way to learn since I didn't know Brazilian people in my country (There were some of them but I personally didn't know them) It was not really an obsession but it was....something like that in a positive way. That's why I call it The Lambada Fever (Smiling)
The videos that I share are from www.youtube.com

La Kaoma “Lambada” (1989)

Chico and Roberta had many songs. It was nice seeing them dancing! Chico and Roberta made many girls dreaming of Brazil.

Chico and Roberta “Frente a Frente” (Face to face) The song describes how to dance Lambada  (It is usually danced face to face) and what it means to dance it.

But then later La Kaoma had a new successful song that we also really liked because the rhythm sounded so much African rhythm added to the dance and it was so original! The song was played in my hometown but in other places as well. Yes, La Kaoma performed their songs in many countries of the world. No need to tell you that we could not understand Portuguese at all but we were so taken by the melody, the rhythm and the choreography. I hope to be able to learn Portuguese someday soon. I recall these fun times trying to dance like La Kaoma as if it was yesterday
La Kaoma “Tago Mago”
Later in the 90’s (Because they were all out like some waves and I was so young to recall all the exact dates) there was this singer with his group named Carrapicho who went to countries to perform their song “Tic Tic Tac”. That song also had so much success until now because people are still remixing it and sing it. I recall that it was also a song for Summer in France. They were from Brazil too. I liked the song and I still do
Carrapicho “Tic Tic Tac” (1996)

There was also another singer from Brazil in the 90’s that was well known for his song “Soca dance”. Being too young we were not allow to watch the video too much. Look the new version of tic tic tac with the group Bellini. I love and love it. The ladies look so gorgeous. In their colorful outfits they look happy and spread this feeling of happiness! This is so cool!

I think you know the Samba of Brazil but also the famous Carnival of Rio de Janeiro. This is another thing that I want to experience too. The first Bellini group from Brazil sang “Samba de Janeiro”. That song was viral for years. Bellini was invited in many countries to perform this song. People still like it.

After years now I still like music from Brazil and like I said earlier it is the exotic side plus the diversity that I love the most about this country. The recent songs that I discovered through social media and TV these past few months or year are the following:
Michel Telo “Ai se Eu Te pego” (2012) If I Catch You
I first heard the song during the world cup of Brazil (Soccer) on TV. I saw the people were having so much fun while dancing it in the stadium. Moreover it is not difficult to follow the rhythm and the lyrics to sing. It is especially good if it is a group dance right? The song was also sung in English version that means that the song is a well-known one. My sister was surprised to hear me singing that song because she told me it was viral here in France too. People really liked it! Luckily this time, I can understand some words since I have learned Spanish which is close to Portuguese.
That one was also during the world cup of Soccer. That song was amazing and so original! The rhythm was everything! The song had a success. Yes! It was definitely a good feeling of Brazil. My mother, my sister and I really loved it! The singer name is Gaby Amarantos. I like her yellow vest that she wears it is so sunny and colorfully happy!
Gaby Amarantos and Monobloco “Todo Mundo”
The next one is so amazing! You can clearly hear the African rhythm with the drums in the background of this song. This is all about Samba originality! It is so exotic with a  feeling of festivity! This opening song was so perfect to me. That is the kind of song that cannot leave your head because it is so well done and it has something special in it. I do not know who is the name of the group who played it. I wish I could know the name of the group and buy their cd. But my words to the drummers will simply be: “ Excellent job guys!” (Two thumbs up!)

This is pretty much all that I wanted to share with you. I mean by that: What I like even though I know that there are other great artists in Brazil as well.
